Returns & Exchanges Policy
We want you to love your gear and actually use it outside — that’s the whole point. If something isn’t quite right, here’s how returns work at The Outside Society.
Return Eligibility (All Returns)
To be eligible for a return or exchange, items must be:

Unused, unworn, and in original condition

Tags attached
-
Free of dirt, wear, or “just one hike” energy
(If it’s been on an adventure, it’s officially yours.)
Online Returns

Returns must be requested within 20 days of delivery

Once approved, items must be shipped back within 10 days
-
Refunds are issued after we receive and inspect the item
-
Return shipping is the responsibility of the customer
(unless we made a mistake — then we’ll fix it fast and make it right)
Refunds will be issued to the original form of payment or store credit.
In-Store Returns & Exchanges

Items may be returned or exchanged within 30 days of purchase

Refunds go back to the original payment method or store credit

Cash purchases are refunded as store credit only
Items We Can’t Take Back
Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns on:

Final sale items
-
Gift cards
-
Used gear (yes, even if it was “barely used”)
-
Perishable goods (food, plants, etc.)
-
Custom or special-order items
-
Personal care products
-
Hazardous or flammable materials
If you’re unsure about a specific item, just ask — we’re happy to help.
A Note on Larger Returns (Please Read )
We totally get ordering multiple sizes to find the right fit — that’s normal.
That said, returning three or more apparel or footwear items from the same order ties up a lot of inventory for a small mountain shop like ours.
Because of that:

A 10% restocking fee may apply to larger returns

Returns of items $500 and up may be subject to a 15% restocking fee
Want to avoid the fee?
Choose store credit or an exchange, and we’ll happily waive it.
Restocking fees never apply to defective items or our mistakes.
Damages, Defects & Order Issues
Please inspect your order as soon as it arrives. If your item is damaged, defective, or incorrect, contact us immediately so we can make it right.
Exchanges
The fastest way to get what you want is to:

Return the original item

Once the return is approved, place a new order for the correct item
How to Start an Online Return

Log in to your account from the store menu or Returns page

Enter your email and use the 6-digit verification code sent to you

Select the order and items you wish to return
-
Choose a return reason and add a note
-
Submit your request
If approved and shipping is required, you’ll receive return instructions and a shipping label via email. Refunds are issued less shipping costs once the return is received and inspected.
Refund Timing

Approved refunds are processed within 10 business days

Banks and credit card companies may take additional time to post the refund

If it’s been more than 15 business days since approval, please contact us
